On Thursday, October 27th, The Remix Project was honoured to host the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, former Governor General of Canada, in our studio space. We were joined by her Foundation and executives from boutique furniture manufacturer EQ3 to announce the launch of Generation Art, a nationwide youth visual art contest aiming to spread the message of community building through the proliferation and promotion of the arts.

Remix was visited by various provincial and municipal dignitaries, community arts organizations, and members of the national and local media. The event featured live visual art by Remix 7.0 graduate Kyle, and Remix 8.0 participants Lelu & Cindy, as well as photography and video by fellow Remix 8.0 participants Anton & Frankie. Another Remix 8.0 participant, Milka, was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to interview Her Excellency in a one-on-one setting.

The event was deemed successful and further strengthened the relationship between The Remix Project and the Michaelle Jean Foundation, with the former Governor General enthusiastically proclaiming before her departure “I am Remix!”

On Thursday March 24th 2011, Twestival T.O was brilliant. Raising over $18,000 for The Remix Project, the night was simply beautiful.

One of the greatest challenges we face as an organization is continually providing relevant tools and resources to the young people participating in The Remix Project. With more than 40 youth participating every six months, who all commit fully to the pursuit of excellence in their craft, the demand on resources is constantly weighing over head. Thanks to Twestival Toronto we have been able to add a wealth of tools and resources into our programming. Our Creative Arts and Art of Photography courses have been given a generous boost and have in turn secured five new workstations for the participants, an in house camera as well as memory cards for all photography participants. And to top it all off, we will now be able to run a full series of workshops with industry leading professionals in design, advertising, photography, writing, financial literacy, and small business planning from around the city throughout 2011. Thanks to the incredible support from Twestival Toronto, our digital city has rallied behind our community and cause to provide valuable opportunities for all of our young people to thrive.

Many thanks go out to the Twestival organizing committee and all those who chose to support this event. If this is the first time you have been introduced to our work and you are interested in learning more ways by which you can support The Remix Project, visit http://www.theremixproject.ca and click “HOW YOU CAN HELP?” found at the bottom left of the page.

Much Love,

The Remix Project Team.

Hey family,

So an awesome opportunity from our big homie Jason Huang over at Cooper Mini. Basically, Mini just did a really cool “Art Mob”, a flash mob with some of the nicest street artists around (Elicser, HerbsUber 5000). If you have no idea what I’m talking about you gotta check those links and keep an eye out on Toronto streets!

What’s even better is these guys over at Cooper Mini are putting their money where their mouth is. With every “LIKE” they receive on their facebook page (link below) they will donate $1 to the movement over here at The Remix Project.

Needless to say, we hope you check out the links and moreso, we hope you LIKE it ;)

Go to http://www.facebook.com/#!/MINI.canada and look for the post that has about 100 likes and counting!

With much respect family,
Peace,

Gavin.
